I too always heard about water witching, with the willow stick it had to be, was the "myth" I heard. People, who told me they had seen it done, swore it was true. But how do you know really, unless you have personal exposure to it.
Almost five years ago, my husband and I had a well-dug on land where no one had found water ever except for one location. We are talking about 180 acres here. We had a well know drilling company come to check our situation. To our amazement, he said he would "witch it". I mean, like the first article, well drillers and witchers are not of the same mind, right? Guess not.
This fellow witched with coat hangers. He pinpointed an area for us, where the drill should go. Then he quoted us his prices and we could not afford him. We had red-flagged the spot but for some reason, probably money, we did not drill in that spot but in a spot closer to the house location.
Well, we did hit water in the spot we drilled in but, now, 5 years later, it has caved in and we have no water. A friend of ours said they knew a water witch that would be glad to help us. He came out and guess where he located water, same place as the other guy. However, the spot was no longer marked so the new witcher had no way of knowing but was not surprised at all when I told him.
But this still leaves the element of "is this for real". I have the answer now. Or at least I hope so. I discovered that I am a water witch. It is so cool. When that stick or the hangers move, you can not stop them. The pull is like that of a magnet in the earth. Which with a little research, is exactly what we are dealing with here; scientific resources used for years and years but just given an odd little label that made people feel uncomfortable, is what it amounts to.
Now we are in the process of lining up a driller. I am picking the spot. I will tell you in the next paragraph or so, what happens....... are you ready......hope I am?
Sorry I left you hanging there, here is the finish of what I started. Last thing I said was my friend and I had both "witched" this area and both agreed on the same site. After this day, I walked the area many times. Back and forth, side to side, always coming up with same thing, "there has got to be water right HERE". I was willing to bet anything I had that we would get water.
Time to call the driller. He comes out. Oh my, what does he do, he gets out these rods and goes to work witching and, surprise, comes up with same spot E X A C T L Y.
We started drilling, and days went by. Not because of any water but because of weather conditions and such. What might have only taken say 10 hours took almost a week. Constant suspense. On edge, will we get water? We need it so terribly bad.
Then we hit a "pocket" of what the driller said was actually considered "surface" and not "ground" water. I thought, "Oh no, does this man that there is no water, that I was picking up on this pocket?" Only time would tell.
On we went with the drilling, breakdowns, slick roads; you name it, keeping us on the edge. Will we get water?
Then, and you will probably laugh at this one, on this specific day, the cows who had stay clear of the drilling rig, came running. Yes, literally running toward the well site. Before they got there, we knew we had water. Pumping out several gallons a minute. How did they know and is that what they knew? Your guess is as good as mine is. But we got our water, and I KNOW it was due to the witching that we located this as in our area, there really is no other system to go by but just plain guess.
Sp, now you tell me. Is "water witching" a myth? Or is it real. I will stake my water on the fact that it is real. Any one wants me to find water for them, I won't charge and would be thrilled to help. Of course, there is the impartiality of location, but just the same, if someone in my area wanted me to. I would oblige.
So this is the end of the story. We have water. Thanks to the art of "divining" if you please. Anyone want to try rain dancing? Don't knock it if you have not dealt with it. Bless all in need of water, may they trust and believe.
Sincerely, Linda
